Surely if you have started researching how to access a Spanish university you have come across the name of UNED, PCE, UNEDasiss and others that you had not heard until now. Whether you belong to this group or if you just want to clarify and understand some more terms, we recommend this reading.
What is UNED?
UNED is the Spanish Distance University. UNED is public and online, so you can study any university degree they offer remotely. The degree obtained by them is of the same value and validity as if it were obtained by an in-person university, and is, above all, focused on those people who cannot attend classes, either for work or residence reasons.
In addition to being a university itself, UNED is in charge of carrying out university access tests (Selectivity – PAU) for foreign students who wish to study in Spain.. These tests to be carried out are called Specific Competence Tests (PCE) and are structured according to UNEDasiss, service in charge of the regulations and organization of access to foreign students.
What is UNEDasiss?
It is a service of the National University of Distance Education (UNED) created for the management of access and admission of students to Spanish universities., especially aimed at international students, facilitating their access through the issuance of accreditations and the completion, where appropriate, of specific tests.
It is aimed at EU students, Spanish high school graduates from CIDEAD and foreign high school students from countries with agreements for homologation to the Spanish high school degree.
All universities that admit UNEDasiss are public, although there are also private ones that do so. In Spain, all accept their criteria, although there are exceptions, such as the universities of Andalusia or Catalonia, which may request another criterion, such as that of ebau, which is the one requested from Spanish high school students, so you can do that route, although we do not recommend it.
UNEDasiss has several services to select from. Future students can choose those they need to meet the access requirements of the university where they want to study. Each student, therefore, has to choose certain services depending on their educational system and the type of study they have carried out. All this serves to obtain a UNEDasiss Accreditation, which is a digital document to which Spanish universities will have access in order to determine if a student meets their access requirements. Therefore, all our effort will consist of having an accreditation that complies with the regulations of the destination universities.
The services offered are:
1.- Verification of the University Access requirements in Spain.
2.- Admission qualification.
3.- Baccalaureate Modality.
4.- Specific Competence Tests (PCE).
5.- Recognition of subjects taken in their educational system.
6.- Language accreditation.
Of all these services, you will only have to request those that you need. For example, in Madrid, you need point 2, 3 and 4. In the universities of Catalonia, 2 and 4. As you can see, it all depends on what you have to request to have an accreditation according to the criteria of your future university.
UNEDasiss applications will, therefore, be personalized. The registration procedures are made on the dates set by the PCE call and they are completely remote. By indicating your username and password you can make all the registrations. You will also be able to know the steps to follow to register for our battery of articles to study in Spain.
What are PCEs?
The PCEs are the Specific Competence Tests, that is, the exams that must be taken to enter a Spanish university. These PCE's are organized and corrected by UNED, and each test is for a specific subject. Among the PCE UNED subjects we have:
- General Trunk: Language, English, History of Spain and French.
- Modality Trunk: Mathematics II, CCSS Mathematics, Fundamentals of Art and Latin.
- Trunk option: Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Economics, Art History, Philosophy, Geology, Design, Physics and Technical Drawing.
You won't have to do all of them, obviously. You will only have to do those that configure you UNED credential optimal for the university you want. If you have questions about which one, ask us 🙂
You can have access to the models of UNEDasiss exams.
When are PCEs?
You can see all the information about the current call in our post «Call for PCE UNEDasiss exams»
What is UNED accreditation?
The UNEDasiss Accreditation is a digital certificate that allows the student to participate in the university admission processes in Spain and which consists of the assessment of academic records obtained in international educational systems in a homogeneous and regulated manner and which also includes the qualifications of Specific Competence Tests (PCE) carried out at the UNED, as well as other services requested by the student.

Bonjour, mon fils fera le bac STMG and il voudrait faire les études ADE à Madrid. Quelle sont les épreuves PCE qu'il devra effectuer????
Hello, I'm Cuban and I'm 22 years old. I didn't finish my university studies, but I'd like to study for a degree in Spain. Could you give me some guidance on the entrance exams? Best regards.
Hello:
I am a citizen of the European Union and live in Spain, in the Valencian Community. I have the Spanish Baccalaureate Certificate issued by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, and I wish to study in Valencia. Do I have to take the PCE exam, or is pre-registration sufficient to apply for a university place?
It depends on what degree you're looking to pursue. What would it be?
