As you can imagine, the entire syllabus is important, since in the test-type part you can ask any section of the syllabus, including some that are syntactically analyzed. Note that although block 1 is not the subject of being asked, it is necessary to learn it in order to better understand the remaining syllabus.
If we had to select the most important sections, The literature block and the language knowledge block make up 60% of the exam; If we add to this that we know how to correctly write a text comment and an argumentative text, we will obtain the remaining 40% of the exam.
How is the Language and Literature exam structured at the PCE?
- 1 part. We will find an expository or argumentative text. It is a question to be answered briefly and concisely, between 5 and 10 lines, about languages and their speakers. This section is worth 1,5 points.
- Step 2 —There will be 7 multiple-choice questions, of which 6 must be answered. They will be about grammar, vocabulary, semantics, or the content of the previous text. Correct answers are worth 0,5 points, and incorrect answers subtract 0.15 points. Failure to answer does not change the score. This section is worth 3 points.
- 3 part. A written essay on a topic related to the text will be required, between 20 and 25 lines long. This section is worth 2.5 points.
- 4 part. A written essay on a literary period or movement will be requested, or a commentary on a work of fiction, poetry, or theater from the years 1875 to 1939, 1939 to 1980, and 1980 to the present may be requested.
An unlimited number of 0.1 points will be deducted for each error in accentuation, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Repeated errors or difficulty reading the texts may result in the exam being suspended. Outlines are not accepted on the exam.
Tricks and tips
- In the development section, relax. It's very important that you develop the written question and create the necessary diagrams to organize your ideas.
- Read the text, read it again a second time, understand it, and make an outline with the most important ideas.
- Prepare thoroughly for the literature section of the syllabus and the language knowledge section; together they account for 60% of the exam.
- In literature, there are several movements that are almost always the same each year. Check out our reviews and learn more about them.
- If we were you, start with the test type and answer only the ones you know in the first pass. After a second pass, answer those that you have doubts between two. Since they remain, only answer those in which you have medium-high confidence. Never answer at random.

Is the literature portion of the Spanish exam being removed for 2026 or did it just get another name?
It's not yet known whether it will remain or be phased out. A legal document indicating this should be published shortly. We will inform you as soon as possible.
