"You probably don't know much about getting into university in Spain. You've probably also heard about grades, entrance scores, and other concepts. In this post, we'll tell you what you need to know so you don't get lost, but if you want to know much more, visit our page on how to study in Spain ."

Below we show you some of the most important concepts:

Selectivity PCE UNEDasiss

This is the entrance exam for university. For students with a foreign high school diploma, it's called the PCE ( Specific Competency Tests ) or PCE UNED. Depending on the type of university degree you want to study, you'll have to take different subjects in your university entrance exam.

Passing score

It's the grade of the last student admitted to a particular degree program. Previous years' cut-off scores are a guideline for the grade a university might require for admission. You can find more information in our post " Cut-off Scores ."

Document authentication

It consists of the verification and certification of the copy of a document, by an authorized body (public organizations, notaries, consulates, etc.), so as to guarantee that the copy matches the original. This process is carried out at the Spanish consulate in each country or at any of the UNED headquarters.

Baccalaureate approval

This is a basic requirement for non-EU high school graduates (or those with an IB or Chinese high school diploma). It's a process to recognize the validity of studies between different countries. Once completed, the diploma is valid as if it had been obtained in Spain. If you'd like to learn more about this process, check out our blog posts. To apply for the validation, you can do so through our agency, LegalSpain.

UNEDasiss credential

It's a certification for EU, IB, or Chinese high school graduates issued by UNED to provide a grade valid for university admissions. You can also process it through our partners at LegalSpain.

Baccalaureate modality

At universities that require it, such as those in Madrid or Castile and León, you will need to pass certain subjects to gain admission. To be awarded a specific high school diploma, you must pass a minimum of three PCE subjects or have an average grade of 5 points across the four subjects you take. If you're unsure which subjects to take , check out our post.

What is the access note?

From 5 to 10 points, the accredited grade for studies equivalent to Baccalaureate will correspond to 60% of the grade plus the weighting of the grades obtained in each specific skills test (PCE) carried out , provided that at least a grade of 5 out of 10 is obtained, by the coefficient 0,1.

What is the admission note?

Up to 14 points will be calculated by adding to the Access Grade the grades of the core subjects of modality and core subjects of option passed by the student in the PCE with a grade equal to or greater than 5, which contribute the highest grade once weighted by the coefficients 0,1 or 0,2, according to the weighting tables of the degrees.
