You may be wondering "How much does Spanish university tuition cost? There are many students who ask us about the cost of study a university degree in Madrid, Barcelona or any region of the peninsula. We usually answer that it depends on where and what, given that each Autonomous Community of Spain has prices for the college credits. Likewise, it also depends on the degree of experimentality of the degree and the enrollment that we are doing. We explain it to you:
- Autonomous community. The different regions of Spain differ in price for each credit. The difference between the same university degree in Catalonia and Andalusia can be up to 3 times its price.
- Degree of experimentality. A career with many practices is not the same as a career with only theory. Equipment and rental of material and facilities make the price more expensive. For example, the most expensive degrees are Engineering, with language studies being the cheapest in this regard.
- Enrollment. There can be up to 4 levels of registration. Level 1 is initial, when we have never done that subject. Level 2 and higher are enrollments in the same subject after having failed the exams. It is important not to reach the last registration, since it can increase the price exponentially, being able to pay up to 6 times more for a 4th registration than a 1st. The trick to avoid this is to only enroll in those subjects that we know we are going to take and have a chance of passing.
- Legal status. Important! Not many students know that, if you are NOT a resident of Spain, you will pay as if you had 4th registration, that is, a very high price. It is important to consult the host university if it makes distinctions between foreign students with residence or not, since we may be surprised. We leave here a link about the price per credit at the Complutense University of Madrid according to legal status and enrollment: https://www.ucm.es/estudiantes-internacionales-y-pagos
- As we have indicated in the title, we have only indicated these characteristics for public universities. Private universities In Spain they have their own degrees in some cases and with different access criteria than those of public universities. For all this, the price is also different, being much higher than that of a public university for first registration... but almost the same as for fourth. Therefore, check how much your access to university can cost you in your legal state.
University prices 2025
In this table we indicate the approximate price of university courses in 2025 according to the Autonomous Community and their degree of experimentality. Don't forget that all degrees issued by public Spanish universities have the same professional value, so it may be a good idea to try to study in regions of Spain where it is cheaper if we want to save a lot of money :)

Hello, I'm Miriam. My daughter is studying in Peru and this year she is finishing her 5th year of high school in the Peruvian system in 2025. However, I am being offered the opportunity to study for two more years, including college, at an international school in Florida, which would finish in 2026, since she mentions that by having the international certificate she will have more possibilities of entering any university in Europe or the United States. What do you recommend? Should she finish under the Peruvian system or take the opportunity of the international one?
Hello Miriam. From the Spanish point of view, the process would be easier if you finished your secondary education in Peru, had that study recognised and prepared for the entrance exams. From a bureaucratic point of view, going to the USA would not improve the process. Best regards.
Hello, I'm from E
Hello, I am Spanish and I have all my Spanish documentation. In 2022 I moved to the United States and finished my ESO studies here. Now I am going to start my first year of high school (11th grade) and I will graduate from high school in June 2026. When I graduate I will surely return to Spain and I would like to study my degree there, I have been informing myself and I know that I will have to validate my American grades to the Spanish educational system and take the PCE tests from UNEDasiss to have the opportunity to study a degree at a university in Spain since I will not be able to take the EVAU.
I just want to know if you have any recommendations that can help me with this process, thank you.
Hello Andrea. Perhaps the best advice we can tell you is to prepare the time plan well for each process and choose the subjects of your HS carefully so that you do not have problems later in the homologation. When the time comes, next year, contact us to start preparing for the PCE 2026 exams. Greetings and good luck!
Hello, I am from Venezuela but I studied in Colombia. I have my entire bachelor's degree in Colombia and the ICFES test. What steps should I start to study dentistry in Madrid in Spain?

Hello, good day, I was studying pure chemistry at the University of Zulia, Venezuela, I am in the 4th semester. I am currently legalizing my bachelor's degree, my birth certificate and my high school certificate. How can I continue my studies and finish in Spain? I would have to take an exam. Contact me. With a university, ask for a visa to approve something. I'm very confused. Could you help me? Thank you very much.
Hello. You should read this post: https://escuelapce.com/como-convalidar-estudios-universitarios-en-espana/
The most important thing is to know which university and degree you want to attend and when, to schedule and plan step by step.

Hello, I am a mother of two children who are finishing high school. I am a Spanish citizen, just like my children. I would like to know what my children have to do as Spanish citizens but we live in Cuba so that they can study a university degree in Spain
Hello, we are Cubans and I would like my 22-year-old son to study in Spain. He studies philosophy here at the university. Is there any help for us that you can give us for a better future?
Hello, my son has already taken the PCE exams from Cuba and wants to apply for computer science in Salamanca for the next academic year 2025-2026. He has already completed the entire process of homologating his high school diploma. I have read that the tuition fees for engineering are the most expensive. May I ask?
He is a Spanish citizen abroad, the cost could be less due to that condition.
