In this post, we'll explain with examples how to calculate your university entrance grade for public universities in Spain. The first thing you should know is that each university has different requirements and calculations. Therefore it is necessary:
- Know what type of criteria the destination university has (how many subjects are mandatory to take).
- Know the approved high school grade (or an estimate).
- Know the subjects to be presented in the PCE tests and qualifications.
- Know the weights of specific subjects.
Once this is established, we will be able to know the university admission grade. This grade is officially established by UNEDasiss through its Credential, valid to apply and be presented in university registrations.
Another aspect to take into account is the type of qualifications that are normally carried out in Spain:
- The grades range from 0 to 10. The exam is passed when you have a grade of 5 or more.
- Failures (grades less than 5) do not add up.
- The final grade obtained for the university is about 14 points. That is the maximum score that can be achieved. The minimum would be 5.

1. Example of calculation with 2 subjects
- Aimed at: European baccalaureates, International Baccalaureate (IB), Chinese, Colombian or for universities in Galicia.
- Calculation formula: High school grade + (Subject 1 + Subject 2)*0,2
- Example:
Matter 1 = 7
Matter 2 = 8
Baccalaureate = 9
9 + (7+8)*0.2 = 12 points
2. Example of calculation with 4 subjects
- Aimed at: If you do not meet the baccalaureate requirements of point a) and want to access the universities of Madrid, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Valencia or Murcia.
- Calculation formula: (High school grade*0.2 + 4) + (Subjects 1+2+3+4)*0.1 + (Specific subjects)*0.2
- Example:
Matter 1 = 6
Matter 2 = 7
Matter 3 = 8
Matter 4 = 10
Baccalaureate = 9
4 + (9*0.2) + (6+7+8+10) * 0.1 = 5,8 + 3,1 = 8,9 points
Now we would have to add the grades of the 2 subjects that are specific to the 4 that have been presented. Imagining that they had been the ones that had obtained 6 and 10 points, the following would have to be done:
8,9 + (6+10) * 0.2 = 8,9 + 3,2 = 12,1 points
It is important to note that in some regions, in addition to meeting a grade requirement, the requirement of a high school diploma modality is also requested.
c) Example of calculation with 6 subjects
- Aimed at: if you do not meet the high school requirements in section a) and want to go to a university other than the options in b).
- Calculation formula: (High school grade)*0,6 + (Average of grades Subject 1+2+3+4)*0.4 + (Subjects 5 and 6)*0.2
- Example:
Matter 1 = 6
Matter 2 = 7
Matter 3 = 8
Matter 4 = 10
Matter 5 = 7
Matter 6 = 8
Baccalaureate = 9
(9*)*0.6 + (6+7+8+10/4)*0.4 + (7+8)*0.2= 5.4 + 3.1 + 3 = 11 points
Subjects 1 to 4, in this case, are usually Language, a language, History or Philosophy and a core subject (such as Mathematics). Subjects 5 and 6 are usually specific to the access route chosen.
