What are MEC scholarships?
MEC scholarships are the grants given by the Ministry of Education to students and other people related to education, such as teachers or educational centers.
They owe their name to the Ministry that granted them, the Ministry of Education and Science, although it is currently called the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
They are very well known to students, since most of them are included in the calls for applications.
Their goal is to provide financial assistance to people so that their education does not depend on their financial means.
Who can apply for these scholarships?
To be eligible for these scholarships, you must be a student . However, they are not only scholarships for Spanish universities , but cover a wide range of fields of study.

Amount and thresholds to apply for the scholarship
The amounts of the general scholarships and study grants for these courses in the 2025-2026 academic year are:
- Amount fixed income linked from the applicant: 1.700 Euros
- Amount fixed linked to residence of the applicant during the course: 2.700 Euros
- Amount fixed linked to excellence in academic performance: between 50 and 125 euros with the following distribution*
- Average grade between 8,00 and 8,49 points: 50 euros
- Average grade between 8,50 and 8,99 points: 75 euros
- Average grade between 9,00 and 9,49 points: 100 euros
- Average grade of 9,50 points or more: 125 euros
- Variable amount**: your minimum amount will be 60 Euros
- Tuition Scholarship***: will include the official public price of university academic services corresponding to the credits in which the student has enrolled for the first time in the 2024-2025 academic year.
The wealth and family income thresholds determine the limits that mark the loss of the right to obtain a scholarship or aid , as well as the amount of the different components and amounts of scholarships and study aid depending on the number of members that each family has.
Requirements to obtain a MEC scholarship
In addition to being enrolled in one of the aforementioned programs, to obtain a MEC scholarship it is necessary to meet certain academic and financial requirements.

- As for economic requirements, The real estate income of the applicant's family unit cannot exceed the established maximums, and income from economic activities or participation in entities.
Regarding these requirements, it is important to note that the final amount received will vary . Family income will be taken into account when calculating the amount, with the amount being higher for families with lower incomes.
To this end, income thresholds are established . Each threshold has a minimum and maximum income level depending on the number of members in the family unit. Depending on the threshold they fall into, the student will receive a higher or lower amount.
To calculate income, you must add up the amounts received by each family member. In addition, there are certain deductions for the income of secondary breadwinners, siblings, and other exceptional situations.
Deadlines to apply for MEC scholarships
The deadline to submit the application is indicated each year in the publication of the call in the Official State Gazette.
To apply for the MEC 2025-2026 scholarship, the deadline begins on Monday, March 24 at 8:00 a.m. (Spanish Peninsula time) and will be open until 15:00 p.m. (Spanish Peninsula time) on Wednesday, May 14.
Although it is not usual for these scholarships to be applied for at such an early date, it has been advanced so that students know at the beginning of the course whether or not they are entitled to one of these grants.
Thus, it will be possible to modify the information provided in the initial application until September. This will be necessary in cases where the student does not know what studies he will take next year.
Once the application period has ended, the processing times will be approximately as follows:
- En May or June general data will be checked by the Autonomous Communities.
- In July it will be checked if the financial requirements are met demanded. The resolution will be communicated to students in August.
